ARTIST STATEMENT

My work is influenced by observing, by “reading” the threads of the human condition. On a grander scale, according to physics our universe appears to be made up of very tiny vibrating “strings” creating matter and energy. Throughout life we all follow the threads that drive us to be who we are and what we believe.

I look for combinations and patterns in the endless possibilities. Through visual art I enjoy philosophizing and articulating common questions that relate to all of society. Does progress come from new ideas or recycled ideas in a new context?

My desire to be in the business of making new things has conflicted with my disdain for wastefulness. The majority of my material belongings in life have been secondhand, influencing my fascination in taking seemingly disposable objects and putting them into a new context. Much could be said about the discovery of self by researching our motivation behind the choice of objects with which we surround ourselves.

I play with the idea of association and how we are able to learn and unlearn the meanings of things. Through the exploration of line, texture, form, and variations in pattern, I incorporate nontraditional materials and fabricated forms to enhance my intuitive discoveries. I strive for both simplicity and mystery while blurring boundaries between the conscious and the unconscious, leaving the viewer to gather his own impression.
